Last week Laston Chitani was admitted to the Zomba Central Hospital to be treated for chest pains and fatigue. His situation worsened that night and he passed in the early hours of the morning. Laston was the first person from his village to attend college. He was very friendly and always had a big smile on his face. There was so much hope for his future. He was a great help to VIP when he translated for the college students from UD worked on the new bridge that was constructed in his village last June. He will be missed by many. Please pray that his friends and family would feel the comfort of God’s steadfast love during this time.
Although Laston had a good education and a good job, his life was still affected by poverty. Poverty is a result of a web of circumstances that hinder life. Although improving one circumstance raises the standard of living slightly, it does not help the community out of poverty because the other circumstances still restrict them. That is why organizations like the Blantyre Synod Health and Development Commission are working so hard to implement holistic development programs with the hope that one day the communities in and around Blantyre will no longer suffer from the effects of poverty. Thank you for being a part of this ministry.
